Los Angeles-based India Love surprised the world today with the release of video for a party trap single titled “LOCO,” featuring will.i.am and a cameo by Lil Yachty, her ex-boyfriend. This isn’t the first time Love and the Black Eyed Peas singer have worked together, she was featured in will.i.am’s video “FIYAH” which was released last year.
Directed by Shadae Lamar Smith, there are lots of close ups on the photogenic Love who is sporting multiple cute and sexy outfits and hairstyles. Items include a Gucci visor, Ruby La high-waist bikini, GARB robe and Marc Jacobs boots.
Largely known as a model, the video marks the 21-year-old Love’s entry into the world of music as a singer, and she said as much in a post on Instagram. And for those who didn’t know, this was my first song EVER recorded ever in my life,” wrote Love. “will.i.am sat me down about a year or so ago from today and told me he wanted me to try something new, something out of the box and fresh. I didn’t hesitate one bit. I remained patient. Trusted his vision and followed his guidance along the way. Thank you so much for believing in me and allowing me to show the world the visual artist I really am.”
Given her resume has been limited to modeling, there’s been a lot of clowning of Love for her attempt to crossover to music. And yes, she comes across as a bit stiff both as a singer and a performer, but she has a very solid fan base and there’s enough appeal in the way she looks that if she sticks to it she could see an above-average amount of success. Of course it helps a lot that’s she being mentored by will.i.am.
