Italian-Haitian designer Stella Jean’s collection for fall 2018 took a sporty turn, paying homage to Olympian track star Jesse Owens. Offerings were a reference in particular to his stellar performance at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin, an event that included a political element as the event was overseen by Adolf Hitler, the head of the Nazi party and chancellor of Germany.
Offerings were sleek and sporty while still touching on Jean’s appreciation for color and pattern stories rooted in the African diaspora. Further referencing Owens, multiple pieces including fur coats were adorned with a track bib featuring his number, 733.
Additionally, the collection included the debut of a sneaker made in collaboration with Parisian accessory designer Phillipe Model. Featuring a fun and funky raffia-covered upper, the shoe is also adorned with a beaded lace stay.
Priced at $336.80 and offered in Italian sized 36-41, the sneaker is offered in four colors and is now available for pre-order on phillipemodel.com.
