CFDA Announces 2018 Fashion Award Nominees and Honorees

The CFDA has announced its full list of nominees and honorees for this year’s awards. In a fun twist, Issa Rae will host the June 4, 2018, event, which will take place at the Brooklyn Museum.

Significantly, Supreme founder James Jebbia has been nominated for the first time for a menswear designer award. The news has generated a lot of chatter in part because everything Supreme-related is covered in great detail, but also because Jebbia is more known as a founder and manager of ideas and collaborations as opposed to a designer.

Still, it’s nice to see CFDA bring in some fresh names and whatever Jebbia’s role may be, there’s no denying his brand is massively influential within menswear. As well, given a recent investment from the Carlyle Group, the brand’s influence in the coming years is sure to grow larger.

Off-White designer Virgil Abloh was nominated for the first time for both the womenswear and menswear designer award. Last year he made his first appearance as a nominee for the organization’s emerging talent award.

CFDA took a digital approach to nominee announcements this year, rolling out the info via a series of videos on Instagram with various members of the organization announcing the nominees. Check out accessory designer Irene Neuworth announcing the menswear nominees below.
