Cardi B visited Howard Stern today (May 9, 2018) and opened up on the topic of her meeting with Nicki Minaj at the Met Ball, the sex of her baby and wanting to wait until after she has the baby to get married.
On putting off her wedding until spring 2019: “I’m not having a wedding pregnant, no. I want to wear my dream dress and I want to get drunk on my wedding and I want to go on my honeymoon and I want to be drunk everyday. After I have my kid, I’m going straight on tour and he’s going on tour…..I need two weeks off and he needs two weeks off. We both need those two weeks off.”
On the sex of the baby: “I’m having a girl. I didn’t pick the name so if you interview my dude, he’ll tell you.”
On quitting weed: “I stopped smoking weed two years ago. I feel like weed really gets you tired and sleepy and paranoid. And then I hate when people say this, like, I really hate when people say, ‘Weed doesn’t affect your brain.’ Yes it does!…I hate when people try to front, ‘Oh it doesn’t do anything. Weed is actually good, it’s healthy, it’s a plant. No, it dumbs you down. It slows you down.”
On “Bodack Yellow” hitting No. 1: “There’s this thing that people think that Atlantic invests so much money in me, that they buy my records and everything. When I first signed to Atlantic, it was so hard. All I ever wanted to do was get played on the radio. I thought when you sign to a record label, you make a song and they put it on the radio. And no, it doesn’t work like that.”
On approaching Rihanna at the Met Gala: “I don’t like going up to people because I’m very shy but I did went up to Rihanna and I told her I love her because I really like her. I really feel like she’s very genuine. I really feel it. I feel that’s she’s really genuine. I really like her. I just told her, ‘I really love you.’ I really feel it in my heart she really wants me to win.”
On meeting Madonna: “I’ve performed for Madonna for her Oscar after party. And I was so happy because I’m a really big huge Madonna fan. I think I know all her records. My mom, she’s a really big Madonna fan. She listens to Madonna when she’s cleaning. When I met her I was so happy that she is what she really is. She’s wild and her, and it’s like, ‘Oh my gosh, she really is like I thought she would be!'”
On her so-called feud with Minaj: “I never was feuding with anybody. There was a misunderstanding. I think that she felt a certain way about something. I definitely felt a certain way about something. I didn’t want to ever talk about it in public because I felt we going to see each other again and we will talk about it. There’s always little issue, but you know fans are always going to make it a big thing. I spoke to her in the Met Gala about it. See, it was just something that had to be talked about. Because like, it was a issue…”
On the source of the friction between her and Minaj: “The issue was something that the press didn’t know because I don’t like talking. It’s something that I’m not going to talk about, but I really felt a certain type of way, my feelings was really hurt and I was on just on some, ‘You know this is why I just keep to myself. This is why I cannot fuck with nobody and everything.'”
On the media playing up feuds between women of color: “I just feel like the media they just so thirsty to also put women in hip hop, not even women in hip hop, like colored women against each other, because, not even hip hop, people put r&b women against each other. I don’t understand why they do that.”
