French-American singer Uffie aka Anna-Catherine Hartley has returned with “Drug,” a catch synth-pop-rock single with the same innocent-yet-naughty vibe that was part of her original appeal. Plaintively singing “The drugs don’t love you like I do, don’t walk away from me tonight…,” the song sounds pitch perfect in an era of androids, mood enhancing drugs and an electronic-dependent existence.
Uffie is best known for her 2009 single “Pop the Glock,” which was included on her debut studio album Sex Dreams and Denim Jeans, released a year later. The album includes a feature by Pharrell Williams.
A phenomenon before the era of Spotify and the transformation of trap music into music most popular genre, Uffie was very much of the then nascent and underground streetwear-fueled blog, boutique and music scene.
While the Sex Dreams and Denim Dreams was widely praised, and Uffie initially announced plans for a second album, in 2013 she announced on Twitter she was retiring from music.
Uffie began to reemerge in 2017 with some performances as well as a feature on Charlie XCX’s “Babygirl” single.
