IKEA’s Democratic Design Day announcements (June 6, 2018) included plans for an artist-themed capsule of carpets.
“These are rugs that will become exclamation marks in the home, whether you walk all over them, hang them on a wall or make them your own any other way.” says Henrik Most, the creative leader for the capsule.
Participating artists include French grafitti artist Supakitch, Brooklyn-based design studio Chiazza, New York-based illustrator Noah Lyon, British fashion designer Craig Green, Paris-based fine artist Seulgi Lee, Off-White designer Virgil Abloh, Japanese fine artist Misaki Kawai and Polish-born illustrator Filip Pągowski, who created the Comme Des Garçons red heart Play log.
In addition to the two rugs included in the art rug capsule, IKEA showed additional rugs by Abloh as part of his stand-alone “MARKERAD” collection.
The collection of rugs will launch in early 2019.
