New York-based Brujas collective has dropped a cool assortment of banded underwear, sport bras, leggings and crop tops. Titled “Seize Bellevue,” the collection is named after New York City’s first public hospital, one whose psychiatric facilities has held a choppy reputation.
The collection was featured in Los Angeles-based Cabbage magazine, which puts a spotlight on an apparel brand in each issues. On Cabbage‘s site, press on Bruja coverage reads, “….or decoding the truth behind the actual training to cause permanent mental health issues while being institutionalized? ‘Get them while we can!’ seems to be what whitey wrote. Would there be a problem with a stock increase on patients entering mental hospitals? Who says there’s a capacity? Could we all be at risk within our ‘normal’ mental state? Would normal to our self, not be normal to the state, if we do show improvement within ourselves? Medicine money and drug money, what’s the difference?”
The collection is currently available online and will also be offered at at a series of pop-up shopping events in Paris and Portland, Maine this week.
I released my streetwear publication dedicated to showcasing brands collection drops, collection development, literature & looks books — furthering the dept in ones art through physical copies & not showcasing social media post, online blogs over saturated with the same names and deprivation from the real ideas. magazine, blog, “writers” will critique & judge what colors, styles, imagery you use but never know/try to know about what goes on behind the scenes of a collection idea & the mental process creatives go through. They will also steal your aesthetic & manipulate you by their corporate supremacy of out reach to bigger margins of consumers. BRUJAS SEIZE BELLEVUE 78 Pages decoded your countrys mental health issues, as well as experiences from women who have suffered from institutionalization. www.brujas.nyc Cabbagedsp.com For purchase of physical copies — DM for purchase as well $25.00 Cabbage Magazine Why did BRUJAS release its most cohesive and complex project to date in print and through workshops ? It seems like Zuckerberg got his way in creating an app that not only allows for multi-billion dollar companies to steal young people’s creative ideas, but an app that essentially works to upvote hot girls and celebrities. We love hot girls but this is not a platform for politics or streetwear, WHATSOEVER … nor is it a healthy platform. @cabbagemagazine is the first streetwear magazine to work with brands like BRUJAS to release special projects. Seize Bellevue, inspired by Michel Foucault’s The Birth Of The Clinic, the occupation of Lincoln Hospital by the Young Lords in 1970, peer support models of addressing crisis, and the real life experiences of BRUJAS and their families navigating the mental health system. The line consists of hand made and dyed designer clothes and a zine calling for a compassionate and radical reconception of one of the more insidious carceral institutions. • DM for an email PDF or Order Online @ brujas.nyc #seizebellevue #psychicselfdetermination @brujas
