Nicki Minaj today (August 13, 2018) dropped a visual for “Ganga Burn,” the first single on her album Queen, which dropped on August 10th.
Shot in a desert, a scantily-clad Minaj plays the role of a “generous queen,” whose enemies conspire with someone close to her to end her rule. Minaj learns of the plot but chooses to allow her enemies an easy victory.
The video was directed by famed fashion photographers, Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott. For her second look, she wears a custom, 14k gold bikini designed by New York-based designer Chrishabana. Her headpieces were designed by House of Malakai. (Side note: there’s been some controversy over the floor-length headpiece because Laurel DeWitt designed a very similar piece for a Macy’s display in 2015.)
If the visual looks familiar, it’s partly because she used imagery from the video for her album cover but also because it was leaked early in July 2018.
Yesterday, Minaj dropped “Sorry,” a reggae song featuring Nas that wasn’t included on Queen because Tracy Chapman would clear her sampled lyrics.
