Bronx rapper Cardi B has dropped “Money,” her first stand alone single since releasing her debut album Invasion of Privacy in April 2018. The song was produced by JWhiteDidIt, who also produced her runaway chart-topper “Bodak Yellow” and was also involved with producing “I Like It.”
The single was slated to drop on October 25, 2018 but was leaked earlier today, forcing Cardi’s team to release the single earlier than planned.
In the art for the single, Cardi is styled by Kollin Carter and wears a gold fringe headpiece by Laurel DeWitt. Her hair was styled by Tokyo Stylez and her makeup was handled by Erika LaPearl.
Just as the title implies, the song is centered on Cardi’s obsession with money, a word mentioned 35 times in the single. Even with her love of all things material, in one of the song’s final bars she lets it be known she holds her daughter, Kulture, above all else…even money.
When the song was first announced there was talk it would include bars taking shots at Nicki Minaj, but Cardi denied the rumor and emphasized the song was about money, which has turned out to be true.
On Instagram Live, Cardi recently admitted she wasn’t interested in lyricism and was focused only on creating chart toppers.
