In a series of tweets, Kim Kardashian today (February 19, 2019) pushed back on accusations that she secretly works behind the scenes with fast fashion retailer Fashion Nova to recreate her event looks. Commenting on the vintage Thierry Mugler dress she wore to a the Hollywood Beauty Awards on Sunday that Fashion Nova knocked off the next day, Kardashian on Twitter wrote, “Only two days ago, I was privileged enough to wear a one-of-a-kind vintage Mugler dress and in less than 24 hours it was knocked off and thrown up on a site – but it’s not for sale. You have to sign up for a waitlist because the dress hasn’t even been made to sell yet.”
She then added, “So, as always, don’t believe everything you read and see online. I don’t have any relationships with these sites. I’m not leaking my looks to anyone, and I don’t support what these companies are doing.”
TMZ followed up with a statement from Fashion Nova, who confirmed there is no relationship with Kardashian. The statement reads: “Kim Kardashian-West is one of the top fashion icons in the world that our customers draw inspiration from. However, we have not worked with Kim Kardashian-West directly on any of her projects but have been driven by her influential style.”
Kardashian was responding to an Instagram post via Diet Prada, which published video from model Yodit Yemane’s Instagram Stories feed showing her wearing a copy of the Mugler dress that was labeled the “Kim dress.” The video is dated February 14th, which means someone knew what dress Kardashian would wear to the event at least three days prior she was spotted in the dress.
It’s entirely possible the dress choice was leaked by someone other than Kardashian, whether on her own team or the the person who loaned or sold her the dress. However, it’s also possible Kardashian doesn’t technically have a “diect” relationship with Fashion Nova, but someone (a famous Momager springs to mind) else does.
