Netflix has tapped Bronx Native to create a t-shirt celebrating “Knock Down the House,” a Rachel Lears-directed documentary tracking the 2018 primary campaigns of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Amy Vilela, Cori Bush, and Paula Jean Swearengin, all of whom ran as progressive Democrats.
The back of the white t-shirts feature the phrase, “For one of us to make it, a hundred of us have to try,” a line stated by Ocasio-Cortez during the film. As it happens, Ocasio-Cortez was the only woman among the four who won the office she was seeking.
The t-shirts are not for sale, but will be given away at select “Knockdown the House” viewing parties planned throughout the United States in the coming weeks. More info is available on screening locations on the “Knock Down the House” website.
Bronx Native was founded in 2015 by siblings Amaurys and Roselyn Grullon, who operate a store carrying the brand’s t-shirt and accessories located at 127 Lincoln Avenue in the Bronx.
The duo also has plans to open a second store called Bronx Native Market on June 1, 2019. Located at 866 Hunts Point Avenue, the store will be carry Bronx Native merchandise and will also function as “a cultural hub for artists, creatives and entrepreneurs.”
