Atlanta-born Lil Nas X has leaned into the chart-topping success of country single “Old Town Road” with news of a partnership with Wrangler. In the song, Nas X mentions the brand when he sings, “Cowboy hat from Gucci, Wrangler on my booty,”
The effort include jeans, Daisy Duke shorts, a denin shirt and three different graphic t-shirts, all of which feature references to the song. Prices range from $39 for the t-shirt up to $129 for jeans.
The pairing seems like a no brainer, but just like the controversy the song has generated among country fans, the pairing of Nas X and Wrangler has also caused an angry reaction among some.
Known as the unofficial denim of cowboys and cowboy adjacent populations, many of whom are country die hards, Wrangler is facing push back from the same country listeners who viewed “Old Town Road” as an abomination.
Never one to shy away from controversy, Nas X hopped on Twitter to address the criticism. “Y’all really boycotting wrangler?? Is it that deep?” Nas X tweeted.
It isn’t that deep, indeed. Meanwhile, Lil Nas X is gearing up for his debut EP titled “7,” slated to drop in June 2019.
