Kim Kardashian announced today (July 1, 2019) she will relaunch her new shapewear brand Kimono under a new name. The move is in response to widespread criticism of appropriation that included a letter from the mayor of Kyoto, a city known for its performances by geisha and maiko, who wear traditional kimonos.
Kardashian explained, “I am always listening, learning and growing – I so appreciate the passion and varied perspectives that people bring to me. When I announced the name of my shapewear line, I did so with the best intentions in mind.”
She concluded, “My brands and products are built with inclusivity and diversity at their core and after careful thought and consideration, I will be launching my Solutionwear brand under a new name. I will be in touch soon. Thank you for your understanding and support always.”
Kardashian announced plans for the shapewear line last week, but didn’t provide timing. The logo for the label was designed by her husband, Kanye West, and the campaign was directed by frequent West collaborator Vanessa Beecroft.
