A team of Queensland, Australian arachnologists have discovered five new species of spiders, one of which was named to reflect its resemblance to Karl Lagerfeld, who died at the age of 85 in February 2019.
“Jotus karllagerfeldi is a black and white spider which we looked at and instantly thought of Karl Lagerfeld and his signature look, as the spider has large black eyes, which reminded us of sunglasses and its black and white front legs were reminiscent of Lagerfeld’s kent collar,” said Danilo Harms, according to The Guardian.
According to team member Barbara Baehr, more than 70 percent of Australia’s spiders remain unclassified. The spider named after Lagerfeld is a jumping spider and was found near Lake Broadwater located near Dalby, Queensland.
