The Bronx Museum of the Arts has announced plans for an exhibit featuring the work of photographer Henry Chalfant, best known for his photography documenting the early efforts of some of New York’s biggest graffiti stars.
Titled “Art vs. Transit,” the exhibit features Chalfant’s photography and film from 1977-1987, including clips from his 1983 documentary “Style Wars,” a transcendent film detailing the nascent days of hip hop and street art in the Bronx.
Chalfant’s photographs capture art by graffiti legends including Dondi, Futura, Lady Pink, Lee Quiñones, Zephyr, Blade, Crash, DAZE, Dez, Kel, Mare, SEEN, Skeme, and T-Kid, among others.
Along with Chalfant’s work, there will be multiple panels, workshops and screenings held throughout the exhibit’s run.
Located at 1040 Grand Concourse in the Bronx, Chalfant’s exhibit opens on September 25, 2019 and will run through March 8th.
