Pyer Moss Links With Sean John For Vote Or Die T-Shirt For Real This Time

September 13, 2019. 1 Comment

New York-based Pyer Moss‘s runways presentations are always full of designs worthy of closer examination and for spring 2020 one of the items was a Vote or Die t-shirt, inspired by Citizen Change, a political action organization founded by Sean Combs in 2000.

Adding a current-day twist, the t-shirt includes the admonition, For Real this Time, a comment on the 2016 election when a fatal number of voters chose to stay home either because they lacked enthusiasm or didn’t bother because they viewed the likelihood of Donald Trump winning as highly unlikely. It also speaks to the potentially dire outcomes should Trump win a second term.

The Vote or Die t-shirt is one item included in a capsule made in collaboration with the Sean John label and puts the cap on a triptych of collections partnerships that included Cross Colours and FUBU.

While Pyer Moss designer Kerby Jean Raymond is very out front about making political statements through his designs, the connection with Sean John holds an additional personal meaning. As it turns out, Jean-Raymond, who attended Hofstra University, was a recipient in the early ’00s of a Black Retail Action Group scholarship sponsored by Sean Combs and Sean John president Jeffrey Tweedy.

Check out the shirt below. As of now, Pyer Moss hasn’t announced timing for its release.

The GOAT Serena Williams says farewell to her care The GOAT Serena Williams says farewell to her career as a professional tennis player in the September issue of American Vogue.

In the cover story, which is a must read, Williams shares some thoughts on her evolution away from tennis and says,"Believe me, I never wanted to have to choose between tennis and a family. I don’t think it’s fair. If I were a guy, I wouldn’t be writing this because I’d be out there playing and winning while my wife was doing the physical labor of expanding our family. Maybe I’d be more of a Tom Brady if I had that opportunity. Don’t get me wrong: I love being a woman, and I loved every second of being pregnant with Olympia. I was one of those annoying women who adored being pregnant and was working until the day I had to report to the hospital—although things got super complicated on the other side. And I almost did do the impossible: A lot of people don’t realize that I was two months pregnant when I won the Australian Open in 2017."

The cover editorial was styled by Gabriella Karefa-Johnson, who in 2020 became the first black woman to style a U.S. Vogue cover.

This cover was also one of the last projects hairstylist #LatishaChong worked on before she sadly passed away in July this year.

Make-up by Raisa Flowers, nails by Dawn Sterling, and photography by Luis Alberto Rodriguez.

After The Cut published a story titled "Our Condolences To The Birkin" the internet got into their feelings.

The last video is by stylist Ebony Brown ( TiKTok fashionablyfearless) who does not support owning a Birkin.
