Megan Thee Stallion Makes History As First Rapper To Appear In Coach Ad Campaign

November 6, 2019. Leave a Comment

Coach is going all out for holiday 2019 with a “Holiday for All” campaign featuring rising star Megan thee Stallion. While Megan has played the role of brand ambassador for fast fashion retailer Fashion Nova, the Coach campaign marks her first campaign for a global label.

At the same time, Coach’s selection of Megan marks the first time the brand has tapped a rapper to front a major campaign, reflecting an ongoing effort on the part of the brand to up its cool quotient and connect with a younger, more fashion forward customer base.

The willingness to embrace rap music represents a big culture shift for the New York-based brand, whose biggest North American association with music culture prior to Meg has been the squeaky clean Selena Gomez.

The campaign includes the introduction of a new, repeat logo collection highlighting the label’s heritage horse and carriage motif.

Lensed by Juergen Teller, Coach’s holiday effort also includes model models Kate Moss, Fernanda Ly, and actors Yara Shahidi, Camila Morrone and Miles Heizer and director Spike Lee.

While playful in its themes, this collection isn't reminiscent of fruity or sweet scents; instead, its floral-themed packaging exudes sophistication and cosmopolitan vibes. Our top picks are 'She Said That', 'Whispers' and Love&War.

Renowned for pioneering captivating graphics such as the Knuckle Ring Tee, among other iconic designs, the brand achieved success by crafting impactful designs inspired by a fusion of hip hop, NYC skate culture and social consciousness.

Announcing the news on X, Sasso wrote, "It is done. What happened to MeccaUSA? What happened to AlphaNumeric? What happened to PNB? What happened to 10.Deep? The particulars of the stories are different, but all had 'partnerships' with the same company, and the results ended up being the same.

"Today my ties to 10.Deep were severed once and for all. Big bank, takes little bank. But with what goal? I'm not sure of the answer to that question is. I think of what I've seen with the other brands that share the a similar history."
