More controversy for music promoter and manager YesJulz (real name Julieanna Goddard ) who went head to head with NJ-based musicians 070 Treee Safari (real name Trenice Hassel) and 070 Malick (real name Malick Ma) on social media last night (December 27, 2019).
Part of the NJ-based 070 music collective whose most famous member is 070 Shake (real name Danielle Balbuena), both musicians said they’ve been attempting to free themselves from YesJulz’s 1AM Entertainment label with both alleging the label has been ineffective in promoting their careers. Shake is currently signed to G.O.O.D Music and ended her management agreement with YesJulz in August 2018.
On Instagram and Twitter, Treee wrote, “She pushes major artist music and doesn’t promote the 6 artists she has signed to her!!! There are four of us signed from 070 and you wouldn’t even know! She thinks her 600,000k followers make her a marketing agency and it DOESNT!!!”
In response, YesJulz accused Treee of credit card fraud and also added that she hadn’t blocked any of Treee’s attempt to post music on line.
The conflict went public according to @070updates after Malick uploaded his EP called “Mnim” to Soundcloud (which has since been removed but is available here). Shortly after, Malick posted a text exchange with YesJulz who told him publishing the EP was a violation of their contract. “Hi! Heads up- lawyer is sending take down notices for your project it will be down by Monday,” she wrote in the text.
Malick also posted a Instagram Live video expressing appreciation for support from the fans and added, “I’m still signed on contract to YesJulz unfortunately. Trying to put this project out for months and months. Ever since I put it on Soundcloud. And I was supposed to get help to do that to put it on Apple Music and Spotify and stuff and time went by and by so I just decided, I’m gonna do it on my own. As soon as I do it, I get that text, like, it’s going down. I’m just like, annoyed and confused.”
Reflecting on his agreement with YesJulz, he added, “I signed this contract, I didn’t have no lawyer. I didn’t have no money. I was thirsty for success, like for money. I just didn’t know what I was doing. And now it’s affecting me two-three years later just because I wanted quick cash or quick fame. Someone’s going to feed you dreams, just to get you on their side.”
Following up on Malick’s reveal, Treee chimed in on Twitter and Instagram where she noted YesJulz doesn’t promoted her own artists and noted that YesJulz temporarily abandoned her 1AM Entertainment responsibilities following ugly exchanges on social media with music industry veterans Karen Civil and Scottie Beam.
On Instagram and Twitter, Treee wrote, “@YesJulz has me signed to this record deal and is refusing to release me from it!! She knows I can afford a lawyer. I’ve tried for months to get out of this contract! After @KarenCivil and @ScottieBeam put her in her place she disappeared without a trace and said nothing.”
In response to Treee’s Instagram post, YesJulz wrote in the comments, “I haven’t stole anything. Treee has music up on streaming and it’s not under 1am. I let her do that. No one is holding anything hostage. She is making false claims for clout and it’s sad and disappointing. I have done nothing but support, uplift and help treee and the entire 070 collective.” On Treee’s Soundcloud, a total of seven songs have been uploaded in the past year with one as recent as 12 days ago. .
In a since deleted comment, she also accused Treee of credit card fraud. YesJulz wrote, “Tell the truth. We didn’t put out music because you were caught credit card scamming your fans- I have proof of emails and accounts of your lack of morals on multiple accounts. We paid good money for your video, your publicist, your food and travel, flew you to Paris, sxsw, Art Basel etc. Say what you want but you made your bed, now you have to lay in it.”
