Queens native Nicki Minaj may be pregnant but that hasn’t stopped her from staying on her grind. This week she’s been busy putting energy behind “Move Ya Hips,” an A$AP Ferg (real name Darold Ferguson Jr.) song she’s featured on with MadeinTYO (real name Malcolm Davis).
A behind the scenes scuffle with her Atlanta-based stylist Arrogant Tae (real name Dionte Gray) spilled out into the public yesterday when it was revealed Minaj’s hair for a promotional video was handled by Tae rival and former Megan thee Stallion stylist, Jonathan Wilson.
Minaj took to Instagram Live where she explained why she was forced to make a last-minute switch because Tae unexpectedly cancelled two days before the shoot. Minaj explained, “He cancelled on me 48 hours before the shoot [for ‘Move Ya Hips’] So then, I said, ‘Well can you overnight the wig and have someone apply it?’ And he said, ‘no.'”
Referencing Wilson, Minaj added, “With 24 hours left, chile, I had to call someone and thank god someone came to do it.”
Tae pushed back on Minaj’s version of events on Instagram where he claimed he wasn’t able to take the job because of a long overdue appointment to remove his wisdom teeth he wasn’t able to cancel. Tae added that he tried to accommodate Minaj’s request to have the wig sent to her, but she didn’t respond to his texts as she normally does.
In a series of tweets on Instagram Stories, Tae implied he’s more loyal to Minaj than she is to him. “I never switched up bt they switch up! I’ve learned my lesson being loyal to ppl n real n sticking by people side dont get you nomore!”
Minaj and Tae are not new to feuding with each other. They had a big falling out in February 2019 when Minaj unfollowed him on Instagram, a move that caused the Barbz to go into full on attack mode.
Meanwhile, Wilson was clearly thrilled by an opportunity to style Minaj for the first time. Wilson wrote on Instagram, “When the King Finally Slays the Queen 😍🍓😜 Baybayyyy I Slayedd Nickii with the Bun and Chop Stick 😜”
The moment was especially sweet for Wilson who came under fire last week for styling makeup artist Jeffree Star in an ombré wig, a look Tae claimed was inspired by a wig he created.
