On Instagram last night Harlem-born music creative Azealia Banks issued some alarming messages about wanting to end her time here on Earth.
Reflecting heightened mental health issues caused by pandemic-related social isolation, Banks wrote, “Yea, I think I’m done here. This pandemic, extreme lack of social interaction, no intimacy combined with constant public ridicule is making life harder than it’s worth.”
Noting that she’s not ready to check out just yet, she added, “I think I will end my tenure here on Earth soon. I’m not begging for attention or asking for sympathy/empathy…..I’m just ready to go. Peacefully of course. I will document my last times and release a film for you all to finally understand me, from my perspective.”
Following the written statements, she used audio to let followers know that a friend had done a welfare check and while fine for now, her decision is made. Once she finishes up the projects she’s working on, she stated, “I’m looking for voluntary euthanasia options.”
As to why Banks is ready to die, she noted, “I’m tired of being ridiculed and having my ideas stolen. I’d rather die a hero than like, you know, some bitch people continue to make fun of…”
Banks added that she’s been in trouble for a long time and has asking for help for a long time. She added, “Don’t just respond to me when I’m ready to go.”
In a second segment of audio clips, she asked for someone to take care of her dogs so she could focus on taking care of herself, which includes having time to make music uninterrupted.
She also lamented the loss of ownership of her 2011 debut album, Broke with Expensive Taste, and troubles with poor management over the years.
Prior to posting a series of suicidal messages, Banks had seem upbeat about moving into a new apartment two weeks prior. While she still in the midst of unpacking, she revealed a corner of the space set up with equipment to record music.
