Famous for instant sell-outs of its signature Shopping Bag tote aka the Bushwick Birkin, Telfar is expanding its horizons through a collaboration with Ugg on a collection of boots and clothing launching in 2021.
Items like a cable knit sweater, sheepskin vest and black t-shirt with a mash up of both brands’ logos were teased in a wholesome campaign featuring Telfar designer Telfar Clemens, who was shot against a home Martha Stewart would envy while playing with a puppy, cooking in the kitchen and sketching an Ugg boot in the backyard.
While some collaborations come across as forced, Clemens’ love for the cozy California-rooted boot is very real as evidenced in 2010 when he sent his own iteration of an Ugg-like boot down the runway with a follow up in 2014.
Commenting on his affinity for the brand, Clemens explained, “When you see a pair of Ugg boots you can instantly feel them on your feet. It’s a physical thing. You can feel how soft and cozy they are against your skin. I find Ugg really sexy. At the same time, I think it’s really tough. This sexy, soft kind of rugged..”
It’s been a great year and a good week for Clemens who in addition to have the most buzzed about bag in the industry was awarded accessory designer of the year by CFDA earlier this week.
Telfar is the debut creative included in Ugg’s new “Feel You” campaign and will launch in 2021. In the past, Ugg has collaborated with an array of dope designers including Heron Preston, Sacai, A Bathing Ape, Eckhaus Latta, Kith, Jeremy Scott and more.
