New York-based Tia Adeola as directed by Teni “Tia” Adeola presents spring 2021 looks with “Black Is Beautiful” or “Le Noir est Beau,” a two-minute short starring r&b singer Paloma Ford, model Samirah Raheem, as well as rapper Flo Milli.
Directed by Nina Meredith and conceptualized by Adeola, the film is inspired in part inspired by Sofia Coppola’s 2006 film Marie Antoinette as reimagined with an all Black cast.
Weighing in on her role in the film Ford said, “‘Black is Beautiful’ has many messages and inspiring undertones that can be highlighted. I love that even though the story showed a rivalry, a protagonist and antagonist.
Tia was adamant in not showcasing a real victor. It wasn’t about that. In fact, you see us all come together at the end, which is the real message to women. We come together and we all win.”
Formerly known as Slashed by Tia, the spring 2021 collection marks the official launch of the Tia Adeola label, a rebranding including a website launched in partnership with Squarespace.
