Texas native Erica Banks‘ very viral “Buss It” single has earned its first No. 1 on Billboard’s U.S. and global Triller Chart. At the same time, the song has reached a new high of No. 67 on Billboard’s Hot 100 February 6, 2021 chart. The song also has attained No. 19 positioning on Billboard’s Rap Airplay chart. On Spotify, the song is approaching 20 million plays and has contributed to Banks’ 5.7 million listeners.
Songs on the Billboard Triller Chart are ranked based on a blend of Triller app video views, engagement and the raw total of videos uploaded to the platform that feature the song. Billboard announced its chart partnership with Triller in August 2020 with an inaugural U.S. and global chart listing 20 artists each.
Banks (real name Erica Breaux) released “Buss It” in May 2021, marking her debut as a 1501 Entertainment signee. The song opens with a lo-fi recording of Nelly‘s (real name Cornell Haynes) 2002 blockbuster single, “Hot in Herre” in which the East St. Louis-born performer followed by singer Dani Stevenson state: “Checkin’ your reflection and tellin’ your best friend; Like, “Girl, I think my butt gettin’ big.”
The song began to go viral on TikTok where user Erika Davila used the contrast of the Nelly intro followed by Banks’ bars to create before and after-themed choreography.
The challenge has since been taken on by Jordyn Woods, Chloe Bailey, Tracee Ellis Ross and many more.
