New York-based Kith has announced plan for a crewneck and t-shirt featuring the work of Los Angeles-based artist SUPERWAXX, whose work is inspired by anime, computer games, comics and graffiti. She cites Andy Warhol, KAWS, and Takashi Murakami as artists who have inspired her.

Born in Richmond, Virginia, SUPERWAXX entered into the creative space through graffiti, using WAXX as her tag. Following a move to Washington, DC, she began showing her work in galleries and has since shown in Boston, New York, Miami, Cuba, Los Angeles and Tokyo.

Commenting on her Kith design featuring a purple color story (above), SUPERWAXX explained, ” It really speaks to using the color purple to interpret Black skin. There is also this character that is looking for hope in the sky. Let’s talk about the last four years, just wanting to give that sense of hope and people seeing this collaboration with Kith and see that things are possible.”

As part of Black History Month, Kith is working with SUPERWAXX along with two additional Black artists who as of yet haven’t been announced. Each artist has reimagined the New York-based brand’s classic logo employing their signature style.

Kith and SUPERWAXX’s crewneck and t-shirt will launch on February 8, 2021 at 11:00 AM EST.
