ANDAM created quite the buzz among two separate but equally ardent fan bases with news that designer Phoebe Philo and BLACKPINK singer Lisa (real name Lalisa Manoban) will serve as jurists for the 2021 ANDAM Prize.
Philo and Lisa will be part of a 14-person guest jury that also includes Chinese singer Chris Lee, Pyer Moss designer Kerby Jean-Raymond, French singer and actress Lou Doillon, journalist Pierre A. M’Pele, Vogue editor Chioma Nnadi and Amazon fashion director Sally Singer, among others. In addition to guest jurors, there are also 18 permanent jury members.
Commenting on the wide-ranging backgrounds of the jury members, Balenciaga CEO and 2021 ANDAM jury president Cédric Charbit stated, “The jury is coming from different horizons, and represent the different facets and faces of creativity today. It’s the only way that we give a good and proper reading of something that’s modern and conscious for a talent for tomorrow.”
Viewed as among the world’s most prestigious fashion awards, ANDAM (National Association for the Development of the Fashion Arts) was established in 1989 by Nathalie Dufour in a partnership between the French Ministry of Culture and DEFI. The financial award was originally limited to European designer residing in France, but was opened up to international nominees in 2005.
The 2020 prize was awarded to Marine Serre. Other recent winners include Koché, Atlein, Y/Project, Wanda Nylon, Stéphane Ashpool and Iris Van Herpen
The jury will meet with and interview nominees on July 1, 2021, and will make their selections shortly thereafter.
