Y/Project designer Glenn Martens has revealed his debut Diesel collection since being appointed creative director of the Italian label in October 2020. Showing an extensive collection of 80 men’s and women’s looks for spring 2022, Martens made use of a digital presentation to show the looks.
Using deadstock Diesel fabrics, Martens presented looks ranging from casual basics like t-shirts and denim to dresses and overcoats, as well as footwear, and accessories. Throughout the collection, Martens puts a game-changing spin on Diesel by making use of unusually textured textiles, asymmetrical cuts and unique details.
As directed Frank Lebon with music by Leon Vynehall, the visual opens at a house party and moves through multiple scenes with the the camera following the moves of a red-haired female model (Ella Snyder) sporting a white t-shirt and denim jeans. Not just any jeans, they’re actually a high-waist jean/boot hybrid, a concept rooted in Y/Projects signature thigh-high slouchy boots. The action ends up in a dreary office building and segues into a more typical fashion show presentation as models use a hallway as a runway.
While many of the looks convey a level of fashion not typically associated with Diesel, the video closes with the same red-haired-model, who’s again wearing a white t-shirt and jeans boots, in other words the brand’s bread and butter but with quite the twist.
