Drake Confirms Damien Hirst CLB Album Art, Lil Nas Trolls With His Own Version

Drake‘s sixth studio album, Certified Lover Boy, became the main character on social media after the rapper revealed the forthcoming album’s cover. The album, set to be released on September 3, 2021, is an illustration of 12 pregnant lady emojis, later confirmed as the official cover art by Rap Radar‘s Elliot Wilson.

Drake, born Aubrey Graham, apparently tapped English artist Damien Hirst as the mastermind behind the unique cover art. Hirst, known best for signature pieces including a human skull studded with diamonds and dead animals suspended in formaldehyde, has not released a confirmation statement. However, a popular Drake fan account posted a photo of the artwork on Instagram with the caption “1 of 2 by Damien Hirst,” indicating he’s the creative behind the work, of which there are only two.

While the album cover has received a decidedly-mixed-to-negative response from fans and critics on the internet, one creative decided to have a little fun by spoofing his own version of the artwork. Lil Nas X (real name Montero Hill) recreated the album art by posting 12 bearded pregnant men emojis at the same time drawing attention his own upcoming debut album, Montero, which will drop on September 17th.

Last week, Drake revealed the date of his upcoming album by interrupting ESPN’s SportsCenter program with a glitchy commercial imitating a broadcast hack, flashing the handwritten message: “CLB September 3.”

The GOAT Serena Williams says farewell to her care The GOAT Serena Williams says farewell to her career as a professional tennis player in the September issue of American Vogue.

In the cover story, which is a must read, Williams shares some thoughts on her evolution away from tennis and says,"Believe me, I never wanted to have to choose between tennis and a family. I don’t think it’s fair. If I were a guy, I wouldn’t be writing this because I’d be out there playing and winning while my wife was doing the physical labor of expanding our family. Maybe I’d be more of a Tom Brady if I had that opportunity. Don’t get me wrong: I love being a woman, and I loved every second of being pregnant with Olympia. I was one of those annoying women who adored being pregnant and was working until the day I had to report to the hospital—although things got super complicated on the other side. And I almost did do the impossible: A lot of people don’t realize that I was two months pregnant when I won the Australian Open in 2017."

The cover editorial was styled by Gabriella Karefa-Johnson, who in 2020 became the first black woman to style a U.S. Vogue cover.

This cover was also one of the last projects hairstylist #LatishaChong worked on before she sadly passed away in July this year.

Make-up by Raisa Flowers, nails by Dawn Sterling, and photography by Luis Alberto Rodriguez.
