Post Malone Stylist Catherine Hahn Creates Unisex Dress Inspired By Kurt Cobain

Stylist and designer Catherine Hahn taps into the unisex trend with the reveal of a dress designed with men in mind. The yellow plaid dress was revealed as the debut item for her newly-launched Hesher World label. “I wanted to make a unisex dress that could be worn every day. To work, to school, to skateboard in, or on a date,” Hahn explained in an exchange with Vogue.

The idea for the dress sprung from her styling Post Malone in a dress last April for a live-streamed Nirvana tribute concert in Los Angeles. Malone was referencing Kurt Cobain, who wore a dress when he performed at a concert in Amherst, Massachusetts in 1990. Providing an update, the dress features smiley face buttons and two Hersher World pins.

“Posty looked so cool and comfortable in the dress, which inspired me to design more and want to make dresses for all,” said the Los Angeles-based creative. “It’s so nice to have menswear options outside of the traditional suits, pants and shirts, or shorts and shirts, combinations.”

Hahn describes the Hesher World as a label designed for the individual who has an “outlaw attitude.” Specifically inspired by the fashion looks of the Beastie Boys, Axl Rose, and most importantly, Cobain, Hahn shares that she’s always “liked the punk rock attitude of no rules.”

Dead at the age of 27 from suicide, Nirvana frontperson Cobain, has had an enduring influence on fashion. Known for his mohair sweaters, striped shirts and polished nails, he’s been referenced by multiple designers and musicians over the years. Most recently, Off-White and Louis Vuitton creative director Virgil Abloh created a Cobain-inspired floral gown for Kid Cudi (real name Scott Mescudi) for his Saturday Night Live performance in April.

Having previously cited Cobain as a key influence on both his music and style, the Cleveland-born rapper at the time of his performance shared his plans to release the dress he wore with the help of Abloh. “Im doin a collection w Off White and the dress will be included!!”

Priced at $150 and available in either small/medium or large/extra large, Hesher World’s plaid dress in yellow in now available on hesherworld.com.
