After taking time away from music to focus on being a newlywed and a new mom, Nicki Minaj is slowly making her way back to the industry, one song at a time. After appearing on BIA‘s (real name Bianca Landrau) “Whole Lotta Money” remix in July, the Queens-raised rapper took to Instagram today (September 8, 2021) to tease the Barbz with a previously unreleased ethereal snippet.
Minaj (real name Onika Maraj-Petty) shared the short 15-second snippet exhibiting her seductive vocals from a recent recording session on Instagram Stories. She followed on Twitter where she asked her followers “to ask Keke [Wyatt], Tamar [Braxton] & Brandy to redo this.” She then added, “Summer [Walker], Jhené [Aiko] & Kehlani can be good in the blend as well with their harmonies.”
Providing some further clues on the music endeavor, she noted, “Once I have the a capella vocals I’ll put Smthn special together with it.”
Although the 38-year-old rapper hasn’t released a solo single since her 2018 album, Queen, she has done some noteworthy features, including “Hot Girl Summer” with Megan Thee Stallion as well as “Say So” with Doja Cat, which landed a top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
The snippet follows an image Minaj share on Instagram featuring herself, her husband and her infant son, affectionately known as Papa Bear, alongside Robyn Rihanna Fenty and her beau, A$AP Rocky. Both Minaj and Rihanna shared pictures from the meeting on Instagram, fueling rumors that Minaj will perform in the upcoming Savage X Fenty show, broadcasting on Amazon Prime on September 24, 2021.
