Having just dropped a collection with Tiffany & Co. last week, Supreme has announced plans for its next collaboration, a first time effort with Missoni, a Milanese luxury label known for its knitwear. The capsule will include a reversible bomber jacket, sweater, hoodie, polo shirt and crusher hat. The capsule is highlighted by a sweater featuring a New York cityscape adorned with both brands’ logos.

Founded in 1953 by husband and wife design duo Ottavio and Rosita Missoni, the fashion company began as a knitwear studio specializing in lightweight knits. Prior to founding Missoni, Ottavio began creating tracksuits for athletes competing in the 1948 Olympics in London, where he he met Rosita whose family specialized in shawls and embroidery. Her knowledge of knitwear construction and machinery helped the young couple develop the innovative approach to knits that would become Missoni’s signature.

Speaking to the the inspiration for the label’s signature geometric prints, the New York Times reported while Rosita created the the “warped, woodgrain-like weave” of their signature fiammato pattern, “Ottavio (who died in 2013 at 92) was the technician, plotting patterns that were inspired by Guatemalan, Aztec and Incan textiles or Abstract, Impressionist and Art Deco paintings. He designed on graph paper, mapping out shapes with startling combinations: primary colors that did battle with earth tones, and polka dots that chased whirling stripes through kaleidoscopic prisms.”

Earlier this year, Angela Missoni, the daughter of the founders, announced she was stepping down from her role as Missoni’s creative director, a position she held for 24 years. Alberto Caliri, who had worked with Missoni for 12 years as design director, was tapped to fill the lead creative position temporarily.

Supreme and Missoni’s capsule will launch at Supreme stores globally at 11:00 AM local time. It will launch online at 11:00 AM EST in North American and 11:00 AM GMT in Europe. The collection will launch in Japan on November 20th.

Check out an excerpt below.

Ten years in, Jean-Raymond’s star has only risen. He hangs out with celebrities (Tracee Ellis Ross, Brent Faiyaz), made a cameo on Insecure, and drives flashy cars (a McLaren 720S, an Aston Martin Superleggera, a Porsche GT3 RS). Meanwhile, his brand is nearly nonexistent.

There is no Pyer Moss boutique. The clothing celebrated on the runway was mostly not available to anybody who didn’t have a celebrity stylist to pull it for them, and company insiders complained that quality control was so uneven that at times what was produced was too flawed to be sold. Jean-Raymond sometimes missed deadlines, didn’t always pay bills, started other projects, and alienated allies. He referred to Pyer Moss as an “art project” and seemed reluctant to make practical choices. Among the fashion insiders who had cheered his rise, there has been a growing feeling that he has wasted an opportunity to build something important.

The last straw for many of his early supporters was his couture show in July 2021. Titled “WAT U IZ,” and put on in the U.S. during Paris Couture Week, it was a tribute to the various innovations that Black people have been responsible for, often without credit. The models came down the runway decked out in a jar of peanut butter and a traffic light. A lot of it wasn’t really clothing, much less couture. Even if the professional critics and other members of the fashion press seemed hesitant to publicly express their disappointment, they whispered among each other that he’d lost the plot of his brand.
