Snobette Sounds Best New Music By Women: January 2022

The biggest news to come from two of the game’s most powerful music creatives in January was not actually song related, rather it was the announcement that Robyn Rihanna Fenty and A$AP Rocky (real name Rahim Mayers) are expecting a child together. The endlessly-stylish couple made the announcement with, appropriately enough, a street style editorial, photographed in Harlem, Rocky’s home turf.

How the happy news will impact Rihanna and Rocky’s plans to release new music is unknown, though it’s a good bet that whatever does happen, it won’t include touring.

Meanwhile, plenty of new music was dropped in January, starting with a 17-song FKA Twigs mixtape. My list also shouts out Dreya Mac’s insanely viral “Own Brand (Baddie)” which received a further lift this week with the release of a super fun visual every bit as energetic and unique as the song.

In addition to FKA Twig and Dreya Mac’s singles, Snobette Sounds’ round up of best new music by women in January includes music by or featuring Ella Mai, Chloe, Jija, Elle Eliades, Raveena, Stefflon Don, Cuban Doll, Coi Leray, Tori Kelly, Chyng Diamond, Cherele, Rayana Jay, Sinéad Harnett, Jane Handcock, AWA and Nolah Young.

Submit music to me, Europe Angelique, on Twitter and find the monthly-updated Snobette Sounds Spotify playlist here.
