New York-based label Diotima as lead by Rachel Scott presented resort 2023 this week with a chic and sultry and sexy collection befitting her Jamaican roots. Offerings included batty riders (Jamaican patois for hot pants), mesh tops and dresses with embroidered finishes and tailored suits. Making the ultimate statement, looks were modeled by reggae artist Patra and Carlene Smith, crowed one of the island’s first Dancehall Queens.
More than just taking inspiration, Scott’s centers Jamaican craftmanship by working with women artisans in Kingston.
Prior to launching Diotima in January 2021, Scott has held design roles for Costume National, J. Mendel and Rachel Comey where she is currently vice president of design. Quickly adopted by some of the fashion world’s most stylish, Diotima has been spotted on editors Marjon Carlos, Chioma Nnadi and Aria Hughes, among others.
