In connection with Virgil Abloh‘s “Figures of Speech” exhibit, the Brooklyn Museum on Thursday (September 1, 2022) released a limited run of 100 t-shirts. Simply dubbed Statue, the t-shirt is printed with a silhouette of the Statue of Liberty whose torch is swapped out for Abloh’s personalization of the Amoco logo, while on the back each shirt’s number in the series is handwritten by street artist artist Jim Joe, known for his childlike handwriting.

The t-shirt was released in advance of Jim Joe and London filmmaker Bafic’s September 11th talk at the museum, part of an ongoing series titled “Social Sculpture” featuring exchanges with Black and young creatives.

According to Complex, Jim Joe is originally from Montreal and has been tagging in New York since 2010. Rarely photographed, he’s worked with major artists including Ye and Drake and has worked with Abloh on multiple projects. Most recently he was spotted writing on a set wall as part of Louis Vuitton‘s fall 2022 presentation, presented following Abloh’s death.

Priced at $100 and limited to just 100 t-shirts, the item sold out not long after it launched. Those who purchased the t-shirt must do so in person at the September 11th event.
