Off-White Reissues Jenny Holzer’s ‘Abuse Of Flower’ T-Shirt For Planned Parenthood

In connection with its spring 2023 presentation in Paris, Off-White has re-released Virgil Abloh and Jenny Holzer‘s Abuse of Flower Comes As No Surprise t-shirt with some adjustments to the font used on the original shirt, which was released in 2017. Playing off of Holzer’s 1986 Abuse Of Power Comes As No Surprise art work, the original t-shirt featured a black font on a white t-shirt. For the update, all the words except the first two letters of flower have been blurred. Just like the 2017 version, the back of the t-shirt is printed with Planned Parenthood’s mission statement.

As with the original t-shirt, 100-percent of proceeds from the effort will be donated to Planned Parenthood. The effort can be viewed as more pertinent than ever given the Supreme Court recently struck down Roe versus Wade, a 50-year precedent that protected a women’s right to control her fertility in all 50 states. Since the Supreme Court decision, abortions with few exceptions have been banned in 14 states.

A press statement from LVMH-owned Off-White, now directed by Ib Kamara reads: “Virgil always left the door open for others to follow behind him and he taught us to look out for one other. In honor of our founder and his values, we celebrate freedom, being human and the fundamental right to choose. We believe in the power of individuality and the freedom to determine the course of their life and future.”

Priced at $205, the t-shirt is now available on off-white.com and at the label’s Paris store.
