In a noteworthy turn of events, Lousiana State University’s star basketball player Angel Reese made a surprise appearance in Latto‘s visual for “Put It On Da Floor Again,” a remix featuring Cardi B released on Friday (June 2, 2023). Card provides the lay up for Reese’s cameo when she shouts out LSU Tigers with the bar, “I’ve been balling so damn hard I could’ve been to LSU.”

The 21-year-old Reese, whose star has been on the rise since she lead her team to victory in the NCAA women’s basketball finals in April, announced her appearance in the video on Twitter where she wrote, “I told y’all I wanted to be a video vixen.”
Latto’s decision to cast Reese is meaningful because it highlights the underrepresented style and femininity of black female basketball athletes though all female athletes tend to be overlooked when it comes to sponsorship opportunities beyond just sport. While their accomplishments and abilities are celebrated, the focus on their style and femininity has been limited.
Reese’s cameo in Latto’s remix challenges this narrative, breaking down barriers and showcasing the multifaceted nature of these talented athletes. Reese’s appearance in the music video not only highlights her prowess as a basketball player but also emphasizes her individuality, style, and confidence. By embracing her femininity and love for fashion, she sends a powerful message to aspiring young athletes, showing them that they can excel in sports while also expressing themselves authentically.
In addition to the Latto visual, Reese has proven to be a ground breaker with news she recently signed on as an ambassador for Mielle Organics. Commenting on the deal, Reese who has dubbed herself Bayou Barbie, noted, “Athletes are the ideal beauty icons and brand ambassadors.”
Going forward, we hope to see more collaborations that challenge stereotypes and celebrate the diverse talents of athletes across different fields. Reese’s cameo is a step in the right direction, inspiring and empowering young athletes to embrace their whole selves and confidently pursue their passions, both on and off the court.
