Paris label Balenciaga on Monday (January 22, 2023) announced Kim Kardashian as a brand ambassador, news that follows her prominent attendence at the label’s fall 2024 presentation in Los Angeles last month. The news was accompanied by a portrait of Kardashian photographed by Platon.
Karsdashian kicked off the news with an effort titled “Closet Campaign” highlighting the mother of four’s collection of Balenciaga bags. Shot by Inez & Vinoodh, the campaign also stars actresses Roh Yoon Seo and Nicola Peltz, model Paloma Elsesser, costume designer and stylist Patricia Field and fashion influencer Devon Lee Carlson.
The announcement marks an official coming home for Kardashian, who released a statement noting she was “reevaluating” her relationship with the brand, following intense criticism of two Balenciaga ad campaigns in 2022. Leaving the door open to reconciliation, she added, “In speaking with them, I believe they understand the seriousness of the issue and will take the necessary measures for this to never happen again.”
In a statement announcing the ambassadorship, Kardashian said, “For several years now, Balenciaga’s designs have been a part of my many looks, and some of my most iconic fashion moments. This historic fashion house embraces modernity, craftsmanship and takes an innovative approach to design under Demna.”
“For me, this long-standing relationship is built on mutual trust and a commitment to doing what’s right. I’m excited about this next chapter for the brand and to become their ambassador.”
Kardashian vis-a-vis her ex husband Ye, has had an enduring relationship with Balenciaga head designer Demna Demna Gvasalia. She’s been featured in prior Balenciaga campaigns and attended the 2021 Met Gala accompanied by Gvasalia who dressed her in a memorable, head-to-toe black look. The 43-year-old also walked the label’s haute couture show in Paris in July 2022.
