Pulitzer Prize Award winner Kendrick Lamar followed up on the release of “Not Like Us,” his take down of Drake with a visually stunning video directed by David Free that was released on July 4, 2024, and drew millions of views within hours of being released on YouTube (at the moment it’s up to 25 million), fueling online analysis on the deeper symbolism of every individual, action, clothing choice and setting.
For wardrobe, whenever possible the team underscored Lamar’s local bonafides by working with Southern California-based or born labels prioritizing community like Willy Chavarria, Kaló Soil, Ghetto Rodeo, Erl, Pro Club and Los Angeles Apparel. They also worked with very of-the-moment luxury labels including Prada, Loewe, Balenciaga, Martine Rose, Acne Studios, Stefan Cooke and 3Man.
PgLang, Lamar and Free’s creative platform, recently collaborated with Converse, and throughout the video the 37-year-old rapper mostly wears Converse Chuck 70 sneakers though in a couple of scenes he also wears Vans Slip-On, a Southern California staple.
Wardrobe for “Not Like Us” was managed by Karizza Sanchez, while the man of the hour was dressed by his go-to stylist Taylor McNeill who was assisted by Kennedy Smith. Meanwhile, Jessica Willis styled Free and the dancers and Telsa Anderson dressed Whitney Alford and her and Lamar’s two children, Uzi and Enoch.
