Fear of God designer Jerry Lorenzo has announced Jason Mayden as head of the brand’s new collaborative initiative with Adidas called Fear of God Athletics, a performance-themed silo.
Prior to announcing a partnership with Adidas in December, Lorenzo was in a two-year collaborative partnership with Nike. The partnership ended because Nike wasn’t interested in partnering with Lorenzo on creating a stand-alone FOG and Nike performance brand.
Commenting on the news, Lorenzo took to Instagram where he wrote, “we’re extremely honored and humbled to officially welcome the president of @fearofgodathletics – @jasonmayden …above all jason is a husband, father, mentor and living example of character over ego… a servant-leader with over 20 years of experience as a designer focused on the intersection of digital innovation and advanced human performance.”
While Mayden’s appointment as president officially was announced on Tuesday (February 2, 2021), Mayden announced he had joined the Fear of God Athletics team back in December after the deal with Adidas was made official.
The task of setting up a global performance brand matches up perfectly with the Chicago-born Mayden’s resume, which includes 13 years at Nike and Air Jordan where as senior global design director he lead teams responsible for creating performance product for NBA players Carmelo Anthony, Chris Paul, Russell Westbrook and Michael Jordan.
Following over a decade at Nike, Maiden was appointed vice president of design at Mark One, and in 2017 he launched Super Heroic, a children’s performance footwear brand with investment by Magic Johnson. The brand’s Instagram feed states that the brand was shut down because of COVID-10 challenges.
