While working the Met Gala red carpet, music creative SZA let Vogue reporter Lala Anthony know her next album will drop sometime during summer 2022. My album is finally ready to go, more than I’ve ever felt like before. So this summer, it will be a SZA summer,” said SZA (whose real name is Solána Rowe).
The announcement followed her declaration at the Grammy Awards that she had turned in the project prior to the event. Letting fans in on what to expect, SZA added, “It’s probably my most unisex project yet. It’s definitely for everybody in a different way.”
While fans were no doubt happy to hear the news, nobody who knows and loves SZA is 100-percent counting on a summer 2022 drop. A notorious perfectionist, SZA has announced plans for new music only to shelve recordings and start over.
In the case of her 2017 Ctrl album, she admitted she might not have dropped the album if her label, Top Dawg Entertainment, hadn’t intervened. “I just kept moving shit around. I was choosing from 150-200 songs, so I’m just like, who knows what’s good any more? They just took my hard drive from me. That was all. I just kept fucking everything up.”
While Ctrl was released five years ago, she has provided her fans with plenty of new music since then, both officially and through her Soundcloud account. She’s also been a featured artist on multiple projects including Doja Cat‘s “Kiss Me More,” for which both artists won their first Grammy.
In addition to music, SZA is fresh off of a Crocs collab.
