Brooklyn-based Joya Studio has partnered with multi-media artist Shantell Martin for a two-candle capsule meant to inspire creativity and focus. Made in Joya’s 19th Century Brooklyn rigging garage turned ceramic studio, the 145-hour candle contains a pouring and layered wax process that allows for two different scents to be smelled when burned.
Commenting on the effort, Martin said, “I love that they are local, located in Brooklyn and that they’re specialists in what they are doing. The Joya team wants to do things at a high-quality level, and they push the envelope in what they do. There’s so much creativity and excellence in the work that they do.”
Joya Studio founder and CEO Frederick Bouchardy added, “Shantell and I were introduced by a mutual friend, Jeff Staple. Of course, this kind of reference goes a long way, especially when it comes to establishing trust, shared values and a kind of shared language, which is how I view collaborations. And Shantell has precisely that type of style that is immediately recognizable and constantly questioning, evolving but along the same path…her own. I believe we also personally share this desire to learn and connect.”
Established in 2006, Joya Studio has established itself as a reputable scents and candle studio with prior collaborations with Daniel Arsham, Rockstar Games, Levi, and Kehinde Wiley to name a few.
Priced at $70 and $700, both cancles are now available at joyastudio.com, and shop.shantell martin.art.
