tokyo-based label Sacai as lead by Chitose Abe explored the concept of the uniform of for the label’s fall 2024 collection staged during Paris Fashion Week Men’s. Titled “United As One/One Love,” the collection leaned into the label’s go-to silhouettes underpinned by the the concept of the “uni-form” as a unifying symbol. In an interview with Vogue after the runway show Abe commented, “I feel grateful to have a simple, happy life and so I really wanted to give a united message of love to everyone”.
In an assortment of 65 looks, Abe took a monochromatic approach to styling, and provided silhouettes with exaggerated volume on the sleeves of shirts, dresses and outerwear. Coats were detailed with puffed out pleats while extra chunky corduroy jackets were offered in green and purple jewel tones.
Adding a playful touch to the collection, Sacai tapped modern street skating pioneer Mark Gonzales to create patches for jackets, sweaters and t-shirts. Patches were embroidered with messages such as, “One Love” with a picture of a hand holding up an index finger and “The Good Vibes Tribe,” with which Gonzales adorned his own Spiewalk G8 jacket.
The runway also featured a collaboration with French luxury shoe and accessory brand JM Weston on a golf derby and work boot, which featured Sacai’s signature built-out outsole.
In essence, Sacai’s latest collection was a celebration of unity, individuality, and the artistry of collaboration. Through thoughtful design and unexpected partnerships, Sacai invites us to appreciate the beauty of form and the limitless possibilities of creative expression.
