The popularity of Adidas Originals’ Superstar and Stan Smith is no secret around here so it was a given in our visit to the Vegas trade shows including Agenda, Capsule and Liberty, there would be a ton of sightings of Adi’s classic silhouettes. What really popped out though is how many people’s outfits ended with a pair of white kicks. Without doubt, Adi’s classics led the charge, but Nike was a close second with attendees sporting white versions of Air Max, Roshe and Huarache among low styles. The white canvas story is still registering, but clearly the more prominent story is a combo of white leather classics or modern mesh upper silhouettes featuring some form of pvc detailing.
Part of the appeal of white kicks is they coordinate with everything and indeed on women, they were often paired with colorful dresses and skirts, but more often than not the shoes were used to add offset pop to an all black outfit or as part of a monochromatic muted color story. Natch, there was plenty of denim and twill pairings with a silhouette that was tapered and hit at the ankle, a length no doubt inspired by the popularity of the jogger pant.
