After enduring three years of stuffy judgement as head designer for Balenciaga, Alexander Wang lets his freak flag fly with his presentation for autumn 2016. Featuring post-punk scruffy looks some of which were emblazoned with pot leaves and stripper poles, the looks and the show’s soundtrack were an ode to his generation’s enduring love for grunge style, weed and thot life. And in case that message flew over anyone’s heads, Alexander Wang featured a 4:20 image (above) on his Facebook page just prior to the show with the caption, “Inspiration: pop culture…2016.”
Music is a big deal for Wang and the show’s soundtrack as always featured hop-hop influenced, independent-leaning artists, including Donmonique, Vic Mensa, Riff Raff, Throwing Shade, Just Jr, along with a Bauer-produced song featuring M.I.A. and G-Dragon called “Temple,” which premiered at the show.
