In celebration of its 10th year, Los-Angeles-base HLZBLZ, as led by founder Lanie “Miss Lawn” Alabanza-Barcena, has been releasing a series of special collaborative capsules that reflective of the brand’s history and clout within the streetwear space.
Expanding on the anniversary concept, the brand has launched a “Power of 10” archival website that documents the brand’s rich history and influence through documentation of the brand’s many collaborations, along with lookbook and retrospective images, sketches and video.
In an introductory note found on the site, Alabanza-Barcena wrote:
“Hi, I’m Lanie Alabanza-Barcena. For the past decade I’ve been known as, ‘misslawn’ the Founder & Creative Director of HLZBLZ, a women’s street wear brand birthed in NY and raised in LA. I’ve struggled, celebrated, learned and grown during my time as a young business owner & designer… All of which I cherish BUT what I cherish most is the relationships that have grown through the years. I’ve had employees/colleagues who quickly became friends and later, family. In celebration of 10+ years of HLZBLZ, my husband Bam (partner in life, love and business) and I wanted to create a site dedicated to the history of our brand/baby and the crazy crazy ride this journey has blessed us with.”
The site also includes a shop offering special 10th anniversary items, made in collaboration with brands including Rionism, Nylon, 40S & Shorties, Sin Amor Chocomoo, among others.
It’s all amazing and touching, and at the same time a bit frustrating to know that even as amazingly creative and influential as HLZBLZ has been, because it’s a brand made for women within a very intensely male-dominated space, it still sometimes has to battle for its rightful place at the table.
