Known for her work with fur and leather, New York-based designer Raeana Anaïs launched her label with her Parsons College thesis presentation in 2010. The collection was made in collaboration with Denmark’s Saga Furs, where as a student she trained for a period as the winner of a design competition.
Anaïs last year designed a collection titled “Arthropoda,” a grouping of avant-garde leather and fur apparel and accessories she has explained are inspired by the exoskeleton of the Passalidae beetle. Offerings were highlighted in a lookbook featuring Bronx-born singer and model Maxine Ashley.
“Maxine is very talented, but it’s not a secret that she’s absolutely stunning. She was perfect for the shoot because she has such a mysterious and alluring vibe, which perfectly expresses my work,” wrote Anaïs via email.
In addition to her own label, Anaïs is also focused on education through Fur Network Program, an organization she founded to teach students how to work with fur and leather. The apprenticeship has enabled students to work with brands like Oscar de la Renta and J. Mendel.
