Tokyo-based Yuima Nakazato made quite a splash with his spring 2018 haute couture presentation, a collection underpinned by the use of laser-cut materials made from protective gear like parachutes and airbags that was assembled using snaps. Rooted in the innovative concept of not sewing clothes, Nakazato’s mod-feeling collection was a futuristic blend of technology and craftsmanship.
This is Nakazato’s second consecutive season as an invited member of the Chambre Syndicale de Haute Couture in Paris. He’s the first Japanese designer who can claim this distinction since female designer Hanae Mori, who became a member in 1977 and showed her final couture collection in 2004.
