I vividly remember the first time I saw a woman wearing a pair of Lululemon yoga pants. At the time I was working for a big athletic brand who had a decent women’s athletic apparel business due mostly to its proximity to a high end private gym. Apparently my amazement at the perfection of the said yoga pants was shared by most of the women who saw the fitness trainer who wore them. A few months later our bottoms sales declined dramatically and Lululemon had taken over. The amazing fit of its bottoms and some great construction details like thumb holes on long sleeved pieces were undeniable positives, though the predominance of ruching and bright color themes were a turn off.
As competition has heated up from a plethora of brands, as of late Lululemon has stepped up its style game and has begun to speak to the street sport trend. Case in point this Lululemon Lab lookbook called “Contextual Behavior.” Shot by Fahim Kassam in black and white, it illustrates the active lifestyle trend at its sleek and minimalist best.
