Atrium Closing As Kith Expands

July 2, 2016. Leave a Comment

Update: Check out interior images from the new Kith Miami here:

Original story posted below:

Long-standing cool SoHo men’s retailer Atrium is in clearance mode in preparation to close its doors for good on July 3rd. Atrium’s location in Brooklyn, on Flatbush Avenue, is already closed. According to Kith founder, Ronnie Fieg, the space will go through a renovation to accommodate an expansion of the Manhattan outpost of menswear boutique Kith, which shares its western wall with Atrium. The Miami Atrium will also be converted to a Kith store. Fieg also operates a Kith Women’s store across the street and a second men’s store in Brooklyn. Said Fieg, “We’ve got big things happening this year.”

Avraham and Fieg’s connection goes much deeper than shared location for their stores. They are family members and when Fieg exited David Z as a buyer to open Kith in 2011, he first opened as a shop-in-shop contained within Atrium. Through Kith and Avraham’s Liberty Fairs men’s tradeshow, the two will continue to work on various projects together.

Opened in 1994 by Ben-Avraham, Atrium was in expansion mode in 2006, announcing plans to expand its store base. Menswear impresario Nick Wooster was brought on in 2013, a partnership that was short lived and was dissolved within three months. Prior to launching Liberity Fairs in 2013, Ben Avraham founded Project tradeshow, which he eventually sold to Advanstar Communications in 2005 for $38 million. The next Liberty Fairs tradeshow will take place in New York in mid-July.

Commenting on the use of a marching band, LV men's musical director @benjib, one of Abloh's longtime collaborative partners, said, "This is the ninth season. When we raised the idea of having a marching band, we wanted the energy, spirit, and sound.I really wanted to reach out and see if there was any possibility that we could make it happen. I am glad that we did.”

The collection was designed and styled by a team of creatives, including Ib Kamara, who was recently appointed Off-White image and art director.
