Designer and DJ Heron Preston debuted his eponymous collection in Paris (January 20) for fall 2017, made up of streetwear-inspired looks offered for men and women. The collection reflected some of the dominant streetwear themes of the day, including workwear fused with sport-inspired silhouettes and the color orange, as well as graphics reflecting Heron’s own personal stories. A heron bird made reference to his surname, and there were also New York Department of Sanitation references that recalled a project he presented during New York Fashion week in September 2016.
For now, Preston’s work is viewed under the blindingly bright light of the gift and the curse that is his close association with Kanye West and Virgil Abloh (not to mention his first label, Been Trill), and yet, it’s clear he has good ideas and if he keeps his head down and presents consistently, his label could be in the mix in a valid way.
Commenting on the presentation on Instagram, Preston wrote, “My first collection review on VOGUE is live. Man. This is so crazy. There’s a new player on the stage. The conversations are changing. This is only the beginning. I never studied fashion design but I was always obsessed with style and ideas and turning dreams into reality by any means necessary. Cheers to all of you that have dreams and never give up. For you, the world.”
