Under fire from the fall out from Remy Ma’s “Shether” diss track, at first glance Nicki Minaj’s trip to Paris to attend fashion shows looked like an impromptu plan meant to change the subject. But nope, clearly this tripped was carefully planned out long in advance, and is serving (literally) as a coming out party for a new fashion approach to style for the Queens rapper.
In an interview conducted while in Paris, Minaj’s brand new stylist, Maher Jridi, confirmed the rapper was experimenting with a more elevated look. “We are taking another direction, this is just the evolution of her style, we want to try new things,” Jridi told Vogue. “I’m from France, I have very European tastes, so I’m just trying to meet in between, to take the American hip hop culture that I also love and understand and add that couture high fashion touch and combine them.” Jridi describe her Paris look as “sexy but futuristic at the same time.”
Minaj kicked off the week at H&M’s presentation, then attended Balmain (including an after-party), Rick Owens and today, Haider Ackermann, where she wore a boob-revealing outfit that recalled Lil Kim’s iconic look from MTV’s 1999 VMA show.
Perhaps she’s setting the table for her next album or maybe it’s her push back on the dust up with shoe designer Giusseppe Zanotti, but whatever the reason, we’re enjoying the show she’s putting on in Paris.
